Over the past year or two, I have been more and more frequently waking up in the middle of the night gaging and coughing uncontrollably. Then I will find myself waking up multiple times for no apparent reason throughout most nights. Some of the symptoms are; intellectual impairment, such as trouble concentrating, forgetfulness, or irritability, restlessness during sleep, daytime sleepiness or fatigue, and sudden awakenings with a sensation of gasping or choking which all sound dead on for me. I'm probably gonna go get myself checked out over it.
I know there is a guy in my shop who was diagnosed with and was treated for it. He said it was a night and day difference in his ability to focus and remember everyday stuff. Kinda hoping I do have it so I have an answer for my lack of focus and memory.

People with sleep apnea typically don't realize they are waking up at night.
Still a possibility though. And the disruption of sleep is most likely the reason for lack of focus etc.

Yep, and they don't just wake up 5-6 times, they literally wake up 100's of times throughout the night.

Thanks, it's been a while since I've been in a psych class that discussed that lol

my brother has it. he has to do a breathing machine while he sleeps to keep his airways open so he doesn't wake up. he said his sleep was amazing after he started it. sorry to hear that man, would suck to have that.
good luck.

Machine does sound sucky, but if that means I'm not tired or moody, and can focus and remember things then I'll take a swing at it.

Well, for my dad it was just a nose piece. But I don't recall exactly what it looked like. IIRC, it was like the thing the used for my anesthetic during dental work. Just a little cup thing that goes over the nose. Keeps the airway open. But I could be way off there.

I have it...
I don't have the machine though or anything. I was told I had it when I went in for an upper endoscopy for my ulcers.
I'd go get checked out.

Better to go and find out if you do or not... vs not waking up in the morning.
A guy on the packers died of Sleep Apnea several years ago.

I have it. The doc took out my uvula and tonsils, and this helped.
Trying to sleep with the CPAP mask on your face sucks. I never got used to it.

Kinda what i figure will happen. There's lots of little things that are wrong with me that are probably huge things that I should get looked at, but i wont. Just don't like going to the dr.

I think I read that it's hereditary so it'd probably be good for you to go check.
