View Full Version : Amazing weekend turned to S*** in 5 seconds "muffler pics page 4"

So I was on my way to Yellow2000S/R's meet today and my wonderful so far weekend turned to shit in a matter of seconds. Anyways, around 6:30 this morning I swerved to miss a dead dear that was scattered all over my lane of the road. This was a 2 lane road out in the country and it was still very dark out. Upon approaching the dear I was going about 60-65 mph and I had just looked up from glancing at my gps to see where I was. I didn't know what it was at first but what I saw was big clumps of meat and guts and blood everywhere in my lane so I try to avoid it by going into the oncoming lane "no traffic of course" and my back end started to kick out, I turn the wheel the other way to counter and my car straightened out and the back end kicked out the other way. I went to counter again and punch the gas but didn't think to pop it in 3rd because this all happened so fast. I slid down a 15 foot embankment backwards as you can see in the pics. I would consider myself fairly lucky that I didn't flip and also that pole you see in the 2nd and 3rd pic I came a couple feet from hitting it with my front fender. As far as I can tell the only damage is my 2 driver side wheels are messed up, some scuffs on the body from digging into the ground, and my muffler is ripped down and bent. Not sure if my car is out of alignment but I would imagine it is. Not sure about damage under the car ether.

This happened a little less then an hour and a half away from my house so I called my mom to come pick me up. My car was towed to a shop and I waited there for my mom. I actually lucked out with the shop where the car is. The guy walked me around the place and it is fairly big for such a small town. They have 2 paint booths and lots of space to work on cars. They have been around since 1920 and it is family owned and operated in the 4th generation. The only shop for like 10 miles and the other shops don't even compare. I even told him about the S/R and that the Borla muffler came stock. I called Yellow2000S/R to let him know I wasn't going to be at the meet and to get the part number for the muffler. The guy told me he would order my new muffler from Borla. He also will try to get me 2 new wheels which may be hard to come by seeing as they don't make them anymore. They are 15 inch motegi tracklite 2.0's black with a machined lip. I will be calling local stores and trying to see if I can get my hands on a couple.

on to the pics
sorry there crappy cellphone pics, I didn't think to grab my regular camera which I did have in my car.

Not sure about frame damage, the suspension seems to be alright. My doors don't have trouble closing like they do when you jack up the front of the car for instance. But I really won't know until they get it on a lift. I forgot to mention but I did not get hurt at all during this incident.

Thanks

LOL it's all good kyle

So I got a problem here, I need to get my hands on a couple of discontinued 15" tracklite 2.0's black with a machined lip. I know tire rack doesn't have them because I bought the last 4 they had in stock. I called a store that had these wheels at a warehouse when I was looking to buy them but they cost more threw them. Thats why I went with tire rack. I have to call them back monday so they can check with there distributer.

Now what I was thinking if I couldn't find them I could go two face and get these for the drivers side.

Ouch dude... Glad your alright, and you didn't roll.

On the plus side the damage is minimal so that's good. Also, you could just get all four new motegi track lights in the flat black. I think that'd look great. Idk about doing polished one side, flat black on the other... I think it'd make people do a double take.

But still, glad your okay, and the car isn't looking too beat up.

I would get all new rims if you can't find some of the same type. 2 faced wouldn't look too great IMO...

My friend's eclipse has 2 faced rims on his ride. One side has 2/4 original silver enkei's, the other side got rocked by my neighbor in a 'pick 'em up truck and so he had to change up to black/polished lip.

I wish we still had all of the threads from the old site, there were TONS of deer hits. One was mine.

Are these your wheels? Different model name but look close...

Thanks man I apreciate it, I called that rims-n-tires place and they were going to call me back but they are very high priced. I called the local place that I mentioned before and they actually have 2 at there warehouse for 245 each. :wiggle: So happy, thats 10 more per wheel than what I payed haha but still.

Anyways, when I talk to the shop tomorrow after the insurance guy gets there I will give the owner guy the info I got so I can get my hands on a new 1/2 set of wheels that I believe really make my car. :elephant:

Thanks again Buster :beernana:

Buster
10-20-2008, 11:52 AM
Cool on finding local ones. See if they'll hold them for you, even with a small deposit until the insurance company gets everything finished up for you.

SnowBoardinWNY
10-20-2008, 12:03 PM
I just hope insurance will replace both, the front one they have to but I think the rear is just scrapped up from when he put it on the flat bed. Do you think even with scrapes they would replace it?

Buster
10-20-2008, 12:09 PM
Don't say anything about it happening with the truck, but it would have not happened without the accident and other damage, so it really IS part of the incident. It's not as if you're trying to get it replaced from curbing it a year ago or something. Just let the adjuster survey the damage and if he asks "was this wheel damaged before the incident?", answer honestly, "no, that's when it was damaged". Just don't mention the truck. It's ALWAYS best policy to give them no extra information. If he doesn't notice the wheel, point it out.

SnowBoardinWNY
10-20-2008, 12:17 PM
I won't mention the truck lol. I wish I could be there for when the insurance guy is there but being 1 1/2 hours from home it is kinda tough. That rims-n-tires place called me back. He seemed really cool, he couldn't get any from his distributer and he even called a bunch of other stores and stuff. He even talked about how nice my wheels were. :P Anyways i didn't mention that I found a couple but the company seems like a reasonable place to order from.

Buster
10-20-2008, 12:27 PM
Well, the point of an insurance claim is to restore the car to the condition before the accident. The wheel wasn't scratched before, it is now, they should repair or replace it. Not sure if they would paint a wheel, but you should press them for a new one at least or settle to have it repainted to your satisfaction if they absolutely won't give you a new one.

SnowBoardinWNY
10-20-2008, 12:47 PM
Idk if you could paint a machined lip and if they were to repair it I don't think they could get it to my liking. I'll fight to the end if I have to dammit! Ether that or I'll just get my mom after them, She is a bitch and I myself would hate to deal with her. :D

so did you get everything you need?

SnowBoardinWNY
10-28-2008, 10:34 AM
Yea Trixie lol, A hot black chick named her for me. :ttnana:

The suspension is ok, the alignment got tweaked a little and they were able to get it back no problem. Various panels were repainted that got scratched and such. My daisies and snow tread are currently on the car and my motegi's will be coming home with me in my back seat/trunk. I'll be rockin a ripped down muffler the whole way home because I wanted more insurance money back because I can do the job myself and I already have a Newsed S/R Borla, I just gotta pick it up which will probably be tomorrow on my way home. I am buying 4 new wheels for next summer. I probably can't sell 2 traklites so I might as well make a "light weight;)" table or something useful out of them. I already have a few ideas floating threw my head for that project.

Overall, I think I made out much better than if I rolled over that damn deer.

Picked her up yesterday after work. I can't stand how snow tires handle lol. Anyways, she seems to be back in tip top shape alignment wise. We will find out in the spring when I get some new summer tread on her. The one wheels doesn't seem to messed up but the other one is bent on the lip. Might try to fix them and sell them, my buddy said he saw worse and it was fixed up like new. I already have some new wheels I bought off eBay. As for the muffler, I think the guy at the shop was smoking crack or something. I don't even think it is bent. It was just pushed over the exhaust pipe and off the one hanger. I hung it back up and pulled the muffler off the pipe a little so it would align better, now it sounds like a V8.

That tip is hurtin.

Tell me about it, it dragged on the ground when the guy put it on the flat bed and getting it off the flat bed was even worse. It was all digging into the ground and shit, I was cringing. A little TLC will take care of that tho. It actually looks worse in pics but yea it needs some polishing or something.

The clamp on the muffler where it fits the exhaust pipe is broken and missing. The insert that adapts the smaller pipe to the inlet is gone.

My suggestion is to remove the muffler, slightly expand the pipe to make it round, make a new insert using a piece of pipe and put the muffler back on with a standard clamp.

I had to fix the used S/R muffler I bought before installing it on my '97 ELX.

There is a special flat bed that can get lowered cars, I know a guy that has a lowered 300zx that his motor went. It sits really low to the ground, I wanna say 3 inches off the ground. This flat bed got it on and off with out scraping anything.

The split part is part of the original design. The insert fits inside, the clamp on the outside.

Bang it back into shape, put a new insert inside and used a conventional clamp on the outside. It will make removing the muffler easier at a later date.

When I have time, I will take a photo of one of mine.

Wow, that would be awesome, I never thought of doing it this way. When I took the muffler off I saw that the split part was actually how the muffler was made but never thought to bend it back. I was just going to hack it off. Where can you get these inserts at?
