So I swapped in a tranny from the junk yard last weekend and after we finished the job we found out my reverse lights do not light up when I go in reverse. At that point we had already filled the tranny with tranny fluid so we couldn't swap my original reverse lights sensor in. I just got my redline tranny fluid in so I figured I would change the fluid and swap out the sensors putting my original sensor that came with my car back into my car. While it doesn't work. Is there a way I can test the sensor or could it be a problem with the tranny itself?

Not sure where the sensor goes in as I've never messed with one, but what prevents you from draining some of the fluid out into a clean container so you can put the sensor from your orriginal trans in?

The fluid is out now and I'm just waiting for some help on the sensor issue. I put cheap stuff in there becouse I can't get redline around here and now I have redline so I decided to change the fluid and the sensor

The reverse sensor is a simple switch. Test for continuity with an Ohm meter.
You didn't have to drain the fluid - just have the other ready and plug it with your finger - act quickly and put the other in.

I drained the fluid because I had cheap stuff in there just to get the tranny moving because it has been sitting for god know how long. I'm in the process of putting the redline mix in it now. I will have use of an ohm meter this weekend, do you know what ohms it is supposed to be at?

If you get any thing other than zero the switch is bad. Open or closed it should read zero.

I stated that wrong. With a digital ohmeter with the switch open it will show the ohms sign or read a number. With the switch close it will read close to zero.

I'll find that out Saturday. I guess I can't really do anything without the meter at this point. I'll keep you posted, and thanks for the info.

It's an on/off switch.

Update:
Last week sometime I borrowed a ohm meter from work and checked the sensor and also the plug it plugs into and both worked but still no reverse lights. Just the other day I noticed I had reverse lights when I was backing up against the building at work, I was in disbelief. I'm guessing it was something inside the tranny that needed movement to break loose and it finally broke loose. :D
