Well, no way I am doing what I did last winter and doing all my stuff in the 25 degree weather. This year I'll be buying a heater. My question is, is kerosene safe for a garage? And why does this one require electricity? The guy at Lowe's said that with this one, I could go out in my garage in my underwear and be comfortable after letting this thing heat up for 15 minutes.

What do you guys think? Btw, I get 10% off because my friend works there.

I live in a 1955 Ranch, the wiring in it sucks. It won't hold a huge heater.

i did too but it worked we jus ran new wires from the power pole

That salamander heater will cook you alive or simply keep you warm. Whichever you prefer. You'll wanna crack the back door (fumes/ smell), but the heater will take up the slack from cold coming in.

Dude, that's exactly what the guy at lowe's said. He said it can melt your face, or keep you comfy. He also said to crack the garage door. Awesome, I'll be picking this up with my first Circuit City check then.

Get the one the guy at Lowes showed you ie. the one in the link. The more BTU's it puts out the more the space it's able to heat comfortably. That will be a good size for your garage. You can shop around on-line or try Home Depo, Wal-mart or K-mart. They all carry the same styles just different brands and of course the prices are different as well....

You don't have to get one that has a thermostat either. The thermostat on those works just like the ones in your home. When it senses the room is the temp you selected, it shuts it's self off. The other kind and cheaper kind is what I have. Which is a plug in and it turns on, unplug it and it shuts its self off.

Mines an 80K BTU Husky unit bought from Home Depo. Had it for about 4 years now. My wife and I use it around this time of year to sit out on our back padio. We have it sitting about 10ft from us pointed in our direction, I never get cold while I'm grilling!! Last year I used it out side in the freezing open at 29* and I still kept warm.....god love space heaters...

Kerosene heaters are good if the power decides to go out on a really cold day. We had that happen 2 years ago. Roads iced over and we couldn't go anywhere but stay in the freezing house... We bought a kerosene heater after that just in case it happened again. Hasn't yet, but we still use it in the garage and sometimes in the house and it keeps it pretty warm without having to use the central heater (we have a smallish house). I have an electric heater in my room because it's not going to do a whole bunch of heating upstairs.

definitely crack that garage door, i had a small kerosene heater and that thing made me really sick. and hopefully this will be the first of many circuit city checks. cause the way things are looking it'll be the first of about 5.

Kerosene heaters work wonders! We borrowed one from my uncle and used it a lot during the winter when working on the vehicles. To save yourself some extra kerosene; Wear a sweatshirt and pants, then only run it for a lil time till you feel comfortable. Turn it off, then when it gets cold again, turn it back on. That way you save kerosene, and you won't have to crack a door because it won't smell as bad (at least it dind't for us)

Read the link on Kerosene Heater Safety (http://www.cdc.gov/nasd/docs/d001001-d001100/d001100/d001100.html). Although they are efficient they do produce small amounts of carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons.

As much as it may pain you to leave a couple of windows or doors open, you need some ventilation to prevent these by-products from building up and killing you.

Electric heaters are safer, but they cost more to run and generally have less output.

One thing I've seen done is to feed the heater with outside air. Combined with a couple of open windows, this forced air out of the building to reduce risk.

Forced air heaters need electric power to run the blower.

I have 4 windows in my garage, and obviously a garage door. All 4 windows will remain half way open and the garage door cracked. We also have a door from our back yard that has a gap from the floor to the bottom of the door, so I think I'll be alright.

When I worked on my dad's Buick last winter in my buddy's garage (two-car, very deep), we used a 50,000BTU kerosene rocket heater, like what you had linked. We had to continually plug/unplug it because of how hot it made the garage. We finally got smart and cracked one of the garage doors, and we were still sweating, but not as bad.

They're awesome, but they also spoil you. You get so warm and cozy and forget how cold it is outside, then when you go outside to leave when the night's work is done, your balls suck into your chest. :(

This one has a thermostat on it from 50-90 degree's, which is sweet.

Why do you want to die in a fire? ;)

Get one of those heaters that look like a cannon.

Kerosene heaters are great. I use one in my garage in the winter time. Just crack a door or window in the garage to let any fumes out and you'll be fine. You will burn through Kerosene fairly quickly, but you will stay warm. One of the smaller heaters heats my 3-car garage to around 70 degrees in a matter of 15-20 min in the dead of winter.

Those are awsome heaters. I actually work in a home depot in canada and i sell them all the time. The contractors around here have actually built trays that sit on the top of them so they can boil their water for coffee, when they are outside. Just remember it is a directional heat so if you have it in the opposite side of the room and directed towards you, you will still get the heat but not as much of the blast.
If i remember right for every 100,000 BTU you need 3 Sq Ft of ventilation. Your best bet for ventilation is your garage door as CO and CO2 are both heavier then air and lay near the ground. Also check with your heater and see if it is a multi fuel burn. The ones that we carry (ReddyHeater) you can burn kerosien, Deisel, Jet Fuel, and a couple other types. They only use 120 Volts. This is becuase these are a turbine, the energy will run the fan, and also run the glow plugs that are used to ignite the fuel.
Hope this helps you if you need more info pm me.

P.S. Dont drop them as there is one part on the inside that directs the fuel (if i remember right) that you will crack and break. I have fixed many of these from people that abuse them.

Yah like I said I have 4 windows and I'll crack open the garage door. I'll be cleaning out my garage really good so that everything is safe. This one does burn 3 types of fuel. Kerosene, diesel, and jet fuel.

Use Kerosene or the Diesel fumes will reek through the house FOREVAR!
?? Dunno bout jet fuel. I can't afford that shit!
