So as some of you may or may not know I'm a first year occupational therapy student at University of Sciences in Philadelphia. I am getting raped up the ass with sandpaper by paying $36,000 a year but fortunately I have scholarships for $16,000 a year.

Well I did bad in General Bio 1 in fall semester so I am retaking it now. And by bad I mean 61 final average, but before the final I already decided to retake it so I skipped the final exam.

Now I had planned on taking abnormal psychology and general biology 2 in the summer at my community college. Transfer credits need to be approved by the school. So bio department needs to approve bio credit transfers.

So when I attempted to register for Human Structure and Function 1 for fall semester I wasn't able to. The lady at the registar office said take my papers to the teacher and get signed in. So I go to the teacher and ask him and he says flat out no because I might fail Bio 2 in the summer.

Then I'm not really sure what to do so I go to my advisor who then tells me my transfer credits haven't been approved. So now I might have to pay a lot of money for one stupid class over the summer to take it at my school instead of community college. If I take it in the summer I won't be able to keep my 10.70 an hour job and I won't be able to make money to pay for school supplies, and books next year.

Don't get me wrong I'm always proud to say that I'm in this school even though no one has heard of it but they are fuckin stupid sometimes.

I feel your pain sort of. I was taking a class and that I was done with my degree. So I'm waiting on them to finally straighten out the paper work and have the credits go through just to find out that the class didn't qualify for the degree program i was in. So now I have 130 college credits and still 2.33 credits from a degree.

It's not a public school, you can't blame America or the government. The University makes their own decisions.

...the school is fairly well known and respected. I have two friends from my undergrad days who completed graduate degrees from the Philadelphia School of Pharmacy.

As much as you want to complain 99% of the responsibility is with you. Normally when someone is accepted into a quality school, the expectation is they will manage their time and pass courses. Considering USP is highly competitive, and most students are doing well, it is unlikely they are going to make an exception for you.

If you haven't figured it out yet, schools in the top two tiers plan for an expected droput rate and plan to admit transfer students after 1 or 2 years who have done really well elsewhere.

I suggest that if you want a USP degree (and admission to a quality grad school) that you crank things up a notch, spend more time getting help before you get in trouble and plan ahead.

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but it may do you more good than sympathy. I've taught at an upper level university and it amazes me how students who are paying significant tuition (or their parents are paying) and should do well, but they get behind, wait 'til the last minute and get in trouble.

Considering how competitive USP is, I understand why they are reluctant to approve transfer credits from a community college. You can't have it both ways, either a highly recognized degree or an easier degree program. You have to choose...

I put in a request for transfer credit approval 2 months ago. I've asked several times, and last week they told me to stop in because they forgot to have me fill out paper work for the transfer. And yesterday I was told that it hasn't been approved, but there might have been a misunderstanding, because the bio department thought I was taking Bio 2 without taking Bio 1.

They resubmitted the paperwork for approval so hopefully they will approve it this time. I don't see how this is my fault considering I had everything done 2 months ago, and the department is the ones being slow. I admit it is my fault for having to retake the class, but if I studied for the final I would've had a C+ which is okay but I wanted an A. The only reason I got a D- is because since I knew I was going to be retaking the class so I skipped the final.

I never said I failed it. I said I was going to retake it. I haven't failed any class yet and I have A's and B's and one C so I don't see where you got the idea that I need to "crank things up a notch"
