View Full Version : Gas Peddle gets stuck

Before the site went down I had a thread up with a couple problems I noticed recently with my 98 Zx2. Mostly I passed off as paranoia as everyone who looked at my car said it was running fine if not better after I installed a JBA header.
But one problem still occurs on a hill or incline with the clutch in the car will rev to 1500 rpm. If I put my foot behind my gas peddle and tap it closer to me the rev stops. Also if I shift up hill it will rev a little as soon as my foot hits the clutch. So for example I shift at 2500 it would hit close to 3000 then drop down.
I thought there was a thread on how to replace a plastic (rubber?) ring on the clutch peddle could this be the culprit on my gas peddle?
Anything would be great its not a huge issue but it gets annoying.
The car is a 98, 108K miles MTX. Keman mod JBA header mods.

My first thought would be the throttle cable. The pedal assy is easy to remove and lubricate if that is what is sticking. Check the return spring on the throttle body.

It is highly unlikely with the JBA, but check the plastic coating over the throttle cable to see if it has melted even a little bit. I have seen this cause peoples throttle to completely stick in the wide open position.

Throttle cables go bad, but I doubt the JBA is at fault.
First, clean your throttle body and bore out with a rag and solvent.
Also, the clutch has 2 switches on it. The front one is for starting, but the back one is on the neutral circuit. When your car is in neutral, or the pedal is down, it is the same - it is on the same circuit.
This can cause idle anomalies, and has made mine goofy when I unplugged it.
[BTW - - now I simply took the switch off, but left it plugged in to the wiring harness - works great]

After rereading jhills post, I am wondering if he may have a slipping clutch.

Could really be anything.
The original post is tough to decipher .

Well I lifted the hood and took a look, I noticed that the line connected to the throttle has a bite mark taken out of it. The car is parked outside and I have a rat living in it I think. It only broke the rubber protecting the cable so I don't think thats the problem. But like you guys said I'll try to clean it up this weekend and hopefully that will help. The problem does seem to be getting worse were it the car will rev a little on flat surfaces now.
As for a slipping clutch what are some symptoms? I notice that the car is hard to go back into one and second gear sometimes. Almost feels like the clutch is not pressed in all the way even though it is.
Unfortunately I am broke until summer were I can pick up more hours at work until then I am hoping my car still runs till my spring semester is over.

Your clutch may not be releasing all the way, and/or is slipping.
I still don't know the symptoms.
