I was thinking of throwing in a new head unit into the zx once I get that $600 tax credit we're all getting, and was kind of leaning towards something like this:

Mainly I'm all about being able to multi-purpose it as a cd player and the capability to be used as a GPS nav unit with the correct accessory.
However, I was recently told that Jensen is a lower end head unit, but the problem is my budget. I guess my end question to you is, what unit would you recommend to fill my needs, get the most bank for the buck, and stay around the $400-500 mark, and are there any serious drawbacks from going with one of the in-dash screen setups?

Jensen def. isn't at the top of the list. I like what they have to offer for "short term use" If you are looking for a radio to be decent for a year or two, then go for it. They are probably right there with Dual.
There aren't to many units that come with "upgradeable" navigation features. They usually come with it or not. If its important for you to have it and you want better quality, you will be over that $500 limit.
I have several better quality headunits than the Jensen but they either have the navi or don't. The ones that don't are in the $400 range. The ones that do, are in the $700-800 range.

What would you recommend instead that would be in the $700-900 range?

And that would ship with the install kit/harness too, right?

The install kit and harness is an extra $38. I don't get a very huge discount on those.
Depending on your zip code I should be able to get everything to your door right at $800 +/- $5.

You've got me sold. However, I'll need time to get the coin together for this.
