Basically, a local amatuer oval track has a new 4-cylinder class. Open to anyone w/ a drivers license and the car has to be FWD and all stock! What's the fastest car I could get? I wouldn't mind a list since it needs to be MTX and that'll be hard to find. I was thinking possibly a ZX2 but idk.

I have the link w/ all the rules if you want to look at it. Thanks

*Edit* I need it to be a junker! lol the thing will get banged up a bit and will be getting it from a j/y. and fairly cheap!

1. Any Four Cylinder front wheel drive cars, except the following: No Convertibles, No Trucks, No Two Seat Coupes, No Turbo or Super Charged Engines, No Multi Carburetors, No Rotary Engines, No Mid or Rear Engine Cars, and No Cosworth Engines. Factory Stock Fuel injection only. Honda CRX is OK.

Basically you're going to want the lightest car you can get. I would go with a CRX or maybe a Festiva with a BP.

A CRX sounds good. And by saying a Festiva with a BP you mean doing a motor swap? Will it mount up to it's stock tranny?

As for the swap, I don't know all the details but its supposed to be fairly easy

Everyone turbos those pimp, that's why they swap them in. Not legal by the rules you posted.

The popular swap is the BP-T. The BP is the N/A version. They make 127hp stock and in a Festiva the car would be more than competitive.

imo a neon would be the choice ... zx2s are limited .. civics everyone thinks are worth gold around here regardless of condition.. but neons are a dime a dozen and have a fairly strong aftermarket.. plus you can say its a r/t or a acr and as such STOCK even with some added goodies.. kinda like an s/r but more widely recognized

jw but did u read the whole original post? This isn't for the streets as a DD. This is for an oval track that has to be all stock. It doesn't matter if it's limited because I can't do anything to it. Doesn't matter if people think it's rice or not, it's going to get the shit beat of it anyways! lol And aftermarket don't matter.... sadly. lol but thanks!

no ....its could be considered STOCK as a acr or an r/t model .. as they came FACTORY with weight reduction on the acrs diff suspension r/t witha better trans gearing tehres a LOT of STK vs STK advantages... im sayin you could kinda BEND the rules... it would still be STOCK ..just a model that is better than the standard neon kinda like runnin a civic si instead of a civic ..its STILL stock..just a BETTER stock... just like an s/r is stock but a BETTER stock than a BASE zx2.... scca SPECIFICLY differintiates models like these but also lets you back-date and up-date many parts.. but you say the rules just say "STOCK"
well... you would still be within the RULES ...just make sure theres no "SPIRIT OF COMPETITION" rule

I am running in that class at that track and I am running a ZX2. pic is in my signature. First race is in 2 weeks. I've been working on mine since last November. Better hurry and find someone to put a cage into it. Also need all the safety equipement racing seat harness, SA certified helmet, double layer racing suit, fireproof gloves and shoes. There are over 50 people entered so far and a few of them have raced at that track for 20 plus years. Your setup is going to be more important than horsepower. If you can't run it wide open through the corners then your setup needs to be worked on before horsepower. That said the best finishers last year had dual cam engines and the escorts did real well several 2nd gens ran.

NO WAY you're racing at Berlin?
I don't plan on getting into it this year since I'm already too late. I'll prob get the car this summer and start the work on it. And my dad and I are going to build the cage since we have ALL the parts and tools we need. As for safety equippement, where shall I go for the best stuff? Like as in where did u go for yours?
And if you do race at Berlin and 50 people are entered already, how come last night only 8 raced?
And I figured escorts would do almost best!

Last night at Berlin the 8 who raced were local pastors who got cars on loan from the track. It wasn't part of the 4 cylinder regular season. you can go to simpson raing equipment, rci racing equipment or RJS racing equipment to get suits and helmet. Make sure you don't get a motorcycle rated helmet, the interior is not Nomex and the track requires it to be flame retardant. Another place to get used stuff is on Ebay.

ya the pastor thing is why I was there, mine ended up winning! lol. But before the pastor race they had the 8 cars do a quick 8 lap race also.

And when's your next race? Is it possibe to come down into the pits before all the racing and check out ur car and see wut I have to do?

Our next race is on May 10th and all you have to do to get into the pits is buy a pit pass when you come in. You can come into the pits or sit in the bleachers. I will probably be pretty busy getting ready for practice and qualifying sessions. Or you can come into the pits for free after the race, would probably have a little extra time afterward. Go to the Berlin Raceway page to get the schedule and rules. Also look at the driver bios to see the 4-cylinder entries so far. Drivers are listed by their class. Here is the link.

Fiesta's and CRX's are rust buckets. Any engine swap would not be stock.
The fastest car doesn't always win. I have a friend who runs enduros with a Toyota Paseo and has won two.
