It was brought to my attention years ago...

Im about to get an aligment, I want to make sure the strut hat "nipples" are facing the correct way, This may affect camber?

Anyway, I slammed my car and going for aligment and need to know the correct position of the nipples, eather face inward toward engine bay or outward toward fender??

one of mine faces out and the other faces forward. my tires wear normal and the car has kept the same alignment for at least two years.

if those nipples are supposed to matter, they sure don't on my car. . .

um, you cannot have them facing toward the front of car, eather goes toward the fenders or toward engine bay inward or outward.....

I never touched the suspension om my ZX2 and one was facing towards the back of the car, and the other was toward the engine bay. I'm not sure that it really matters.

stk... they are facing inwards .. moving 'em every 90 degrees changes the caster/camber slightly as they are angled a lil bit I had to rotate one of mine for my alignment years ago.. but he was wondering what STK was to start with i assumed... but yeah ...they will vary on some cars just for that reason of being an alingment adjustment

Toward the engine bay is correct. the changes a minimall. The most you can get is +29 minutes camber change with the indicator (nipple) toward the out side.

There is no correct orientation.

They are used to make 1/2 degree adjustments to even the camber caster from side to side.

But it is best to point them backwards so that you get maximum caster. You can't get too much caster.
Then adjust your camber side to side to be even. Slot the upper strut [to knuckle] holes and make it match the other side's camber. You only have to slot the side that has the least neg camber. In other words, check the sides, and leave the one with the most neg camber alone.

For what it is worth, I did some checking. From stock height to 2" drop there is no measurable change in camber.

Mech said is confusing...

Basically, Im getting an Aligment, I just put on BRAND NEW TIRES, I want them to wear even!!! I only street race, drag race, so forget going around corners...

So we all agree have them facing inwards? Or dont even worrie about it?

I've never worried about mine, with a good alignment my tires have never worn un evenly.

well. Like I said, mabey I shouldnt worrie about what way they face, I just remmeber Rob (zxtuner.com) telling me to make sure they face the right way

What is confusing about saying they should point backwards for maximum caster [desirable]?
What is confusing about saying there is no set correct way to point them?

Since the differences are so small. It probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
The max. change is 1/2 degree which is well within the alignment specs.
Toe is the thing that will wear tires more than camber.

ok, so tonight I turned them so they face toward the rear of the car or "backwards" Going for Aligment first thing in the morning.

Good. Now you have maximum caster.
But alignment shops pretty much only set the toe in on our cars.
Get a printed read out and let us know whats up.
