It looks easy enough to "depower" a power rack. Might be something I'd actually be able to do!! Certainly wouldn't swap out racks but might attempt this if I ever get a spare rack...then again I really like my power steering....

ya I might have to go back and follow the depowering link for my zx2 rack cause all I did was plug up 2 of the biggest holes. It turns great! except to park. When going real slow it only lets me turn the wheel a 1/3 at a time. So turn a 1/3, back a little, turn a 1/3, back a lil, 1/3, back, 1/3. If that makes sense. But nonetheless while driving this thing is nice and turns easier than not running turning the wheel

If you are going to the trouble of removing the power assist harware from the MX-3 GS rack, why not just remove the power assist hardware from the ZX2 rack ??

This may solve another probelm I've been fussing about. I've thought about installing a entrifulgal supercharger based on the unit available for the Scion TC, but there is no room to install the pulley and jackshaft to drive the S/C. If you made the stock steering rack manual, you could use the P/S pump location for the drive pulley for the S/C.

    Just a thought.

This maybe a bit of a newb question but I'd rather be 100% sure. Is the ZX2 rack and the 99-03 Non-ZX2 Escort rack the same? My local JY has a few non-zx2's I could steal a rack from to depower to minimize the down time of my DD.

power racks from any 91+ ford escort/merc tracer have the same 3.1 turn ratio and should bolt up effortlessly. the fluid lines may be a little different but we aren't using those anymore!

You may correct me if I am wrong but your diagram for the belt re-direction now has the water pump running in reverse.
