I really don't know how they do as a dirt track car but my ex had a neon of about that year and had nothing but problems with it =-/ could have been a lemon though.

Neons are not as bad as everyone has said. They make a very good track car. There are several running at tracks in my area. We also have three running in our ice races in the Street Legal class. In fact one of them won the season championship.
Now, if you could find an ACR with the DOHC engine.
Nice thing, Neons are plentiful and parts are cheap.
