I got 252,000 miles on mine and average 43mpg on my commute to work, but got 54 mpg on the highway...once
If you don't make too much money, then the ZX2 is a great car. Your problem is you don't know how to fix it and prevent problems from getting expensive. Joining this site is the first step to learning. Spend you money on learing to fix your car and that is an investment that will pay back big time in the future. I have three cars, the ZX2 with 252K, another vehicle with 180K and another with 120K and I have a yearly budget of $1200 to do all the maintance for the year, (everything including trans, motors, whatever). The ZX2 can be quite affordable, if you invest in knowledge.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely invest in Cortney now and save up for a rwd g-body later on.

for starters, whether it is an auto or a manual if you take it nice and easy the zx2 is a good investment. if you have a lead foot, then you will be helping key parts wear out fast. keep up with the basic maintenance, and do what you can yourself. the solid gas mileage and low cost to insure will make it a wise investment. the zx2 is an agile and fun car to drive, however, like any other car on the road it can only take so much abuse. keep in mind that these cars cost between 13 and 18 thousand brand new. some mods may increase durability and mpg, and others may compromise reliability and make you think that you need to race around and turn car into junk.

Mine has 135k on her. The only time she gives me any problems is when I DON'T drive her like I stole her. When I'm easy on my car, timing belt (or something else) breaks. When I give her hell, she loves it and wants more. At any rate, everyone has given you solid advice. These really are easy little cars to maintain. I view mine as an investment. I couldn't have gotten a quicker, more agile, great economical, little cheap ass piece of America (and Mexico) that was ANY better for 2 grand. Stick to this sight, lot of great guys who can tell you exactly whats wrong with courtney (if something goes wrong).

Any car that is paid for is a good investment. If you buy another car and have a $300 a month payment, where is the money going? Keep it maintained and you should get alot of use out of it. Its usually not a good idea to seriously mod your daily driver. The weak points start to show, and then you have nothing to drive until you fix it.
1998 ZX2. All stock except for the mods I made.
