    Default Running hot?

1999 ZX2 Sport.....I put a water pump on yesterday and everything seems to be okay, temp gauge has always been just a tad below halfway mark, no check engine lights. It just seems to me that it is running hot,,when I open the hood you can feel the heat and smell it also. I've got a Ford Ranger also and i can put my hand all over that motor and it 'isn't that hot....I could fry an egg on my ZX2 valve cover.

Is this normal? The car runs fine, no leaks, I'm just concerned.

Things get pretty warm , even hot. If your coolant temperature is good, don't worry about it.

Thanks all for the replies. I flushed it recently and changed the thermostat a few months ago. It went 28 miles with the gauge needle staying were it always is, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

in all my years of owning a ZX2. i've learned they run hot and feel that way. as long as your temp gauge is ok. you should be ok.

i had the same problem in my contour. I changed everything and it still was running warm (the gauge was about 3/4 of the way to hot) and i ended up putting in "Liquid Water", that made the needle drop to about a 1/2 of the way up. But i dont know if it would be safe to run it in our cars. I know i read somewhere that aditives like that arent always safe to run with water pumps that have plastic impellers (sp). Then again i dont even know if ours are plastic or metal, im betting on plastic though

You could be low on coolant, that will cause your car to run hot.
