Thread: SVT DSI manifold install on zx2

Wow guys, great information and thanks for posting. I guess I'm only going to be running this on my race car so there really wouldn't be a need for the long runner configuration. I wonder if it would still benefit in autox to have a cable to pull at the appropriate rpm. I guess I'd be better off finding an svt head and bolting it on and not messing with porting seeing as how i've never done it and maybe I don't care to So basically the SVT made 170hp with the addition of better pistons/rods and the head/intake manifold. Are the pistons really making a difference in power other than increasing the c/r?

wouldnt it be a good idea to wire this to the vct wires,

that way it would have the long/short function and it would open when up when you need it the most.

fyi i know vct isnt for performance on zx2's but this would kind of even it out.

As far as the ports go, I'm not sure exactly how much the ports have to be slotted, or if they even can be with the SVT IM.

As for everything else, I have a feeling that it's pretty close in modifications to the old style FRIM. I did a write up in the parts reviews section if you want to see what needs to be done. It's a good bit of work though, I'll tell you that much.

I would use a Focus head & go with Crower Stage 2 or 3

The SVT manifold supports a higher redline. With our stock head/cams/intake, the motor stops making power around 5500rpm. With the SVT manifold installed, the motor kept pulling up until the 7000rpm rev limiter. And it will support higher engine speeds than that too.

The injector slot has nothing to do with the injector position in the lower manifold . The lower bolts on with the injectors clear of the slot ,just a lot of work for no reason. There's some pic's floating around showing this , I'll see if I can find them in my junk

I found them , the manifold is bolted onto a stock ZX2 head , positioned where it should be with the ports . The injector is wide open with no restriction . The height and width of the Ports need to be worked on , injector slot does nothing for performance .

If the type of racing you're doing is autocross, wouldn't it be better to have both runner configurations? I'm not really familiar with autocrossing, but from what I've seen, it seems like there is alot of midrange engine operation?? The SVT power also was due to the exhaust header and more aggressive cams. The increased compression isn't only because of the pistons, its a combination of the pistons & combustion chamber size. That is why a ZX2 head and SVT block=9.2:1 compression ratio compared to the 10.2:1 compression ratio of the SVT head & block.

ZX2/SVT heads both have 48CC chambers . ZX2 uses cast 9.6:1 pistons , SVT uses 10.2:1 cast pistons with Forged Rods. Plus the SVT has larger intake/exhaust valves/runners.

Are you absolutely sure?? I could have sworn that the SVT combustion chamber was 42cc.

so why does the svt internals in the zx2 motor lower compression?

    I think they increase...?

I did mine that way, and I haven't had any problems so far.

Mine does that too, I was thinking about putting the SVT IAC valve back on and seeing what happens.
