    You should be able to find the parts for a Miata at a local yard. We have 2 Miatas at one of the yards here, so I know they do get junked...so look there.

    Axel info (not confirmed):

    |=======================================|
    | | Tribute Front | Tribute Rear | Escort Front |
    | | Diff | Hub | Diff | Hub | Diff | Hub |
    |-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
    | Spline Count | 28 | 28 | 23? | 26 | 26 | 26 |
    |-----------------------------------------------------------------------|
    | Diameter (mm) | 27 | 27 | ? | 26.5 | ? | 25 |
    |=======================================|

    Not sure if the diameter should be metric or imperial.
    27mm ~ 1-1/16"
    26.5mm ~ 1-3/64"
    25mm ~ 1"
    23mm ~ 7/8"

    The above figures are what I have counter/measured and I don't trust myself, could anyone confirm any of these numbers?

    I was always thought that the Escapes with the awd transmissions were automatics only. Am I wrong in this?

    On the fuel cell or fuel tank idea i would put a cell in it. That will give u the freedom to put it where u want.... Instead of having to dick around with poor fitting alinments and tight areas to work with becuase of a retro fittied tank. In my opinion a fuel cell is the only option

    Thanks Crash, you are probably right. A fuel cell is probably the only way to go.

    I was hoping to avoid some headaches keeping the stock setup or perhaps just using the zx2 equipment in the stock location with a different tank with a hump or other allowances to provide enough room to fit my drive shaft through. I am afraid of the emissions laws here in Ontario. I would have to keep the tank breather/sensors and pressure release solenoid all in working order.

    I guess my problem is that I don't know what exactly be required to do the fuel cell and keep it legal.

    I also don't know if this entire 4x4 deal will work and would like to spend as little as possible till it is functioning. Once I know the entire setup functions, then I will upgrade the parts that need it. But for the moment the plan is just to get it to work.

    Dont know if this is an option, or even feasible and forgive me if this sounds incredibly stupid. But could you maybe cut up the fuel tank to allow room for the rear diff and drive shaft? The end result would maybe be a 6 gallon tank as opposed to a 12 gallon tank, for example.

    I am not sure.

    Is it possible to weld on a fuel tank that has been used? I would think it would be a fire issue unless there is some sort of cleanser that can be used to neutralize the fuel remnants and fumes.
