this is the first time i've felt an earthquake! and for it to be in Illinois is nuts...i lived in alaska 2 years and slept through them all. i felt it at 4:39 in Peoria, IL.
Yeah, we felt it 2 minites later here in central Indiana. It was a 5.4 in IL. I was waiting for an explosion. Then when it didn't happen I figured it was a quake and turned the radio on. Sure enough, that is what it was.

here is said it was a 5 in central Indiana, which was the cause... i dont care where it came from it just scared the crap out of me lol. i never felt one before

yeah, this is my first time being awake for one, too! i hope everyone's ok near the epicenter...no broken gas lines or anything. at least the ground is thawed out now...don't have to worry about the added strain of hard frozen ground and hard frozen lines.
yea, thats nutz, i'd hate to know what would happin if it was bigger
~Fuzzy
i'm surprised there hasn't been a major quake from the New Madrid fault in southern IL. the last big one from there was in the 1800's...made the Mississippi River run backward for 3 days and rang church bells in north carolina!
ouch i wounder if a shed fell down this time like it did in 1977 like the first one ohio had. and that one was smaller
~Fuzzy
it must have been closer to ohio than illinois...i'm in central IL, about an hour and 15 minutes from indiana, and it was barely noticable...sounds like you guys got shook up a bit more.
same here im in springfield IL and i didnt feel a damn thing but i got a phone call asking me if i just felt the house shake from my friend who said he felt alot of it. looked it up online it shows a 5.4 in southern indiana.
