    Default Filled Motor Mounts Review

I used this as a basic guideline... http://teamzx2.com/threads/15963-Fil...h-polyurethane

I filled my mounts up with some urethane a few days ago, and it's been an awesome mod so far. The tube was a little less than $20, and was enough to fill both the upper motor mount, and the tranny mount below the battery. It took about 3 hours to get them off and filled, start to finish. Putting them back on took about an hour and a half.

Here is a video of the tranny mount stock. I can tell you right now that there is no way I would be able to move it, even if I wanted to.
    http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/6850/0523002007.mp4

The car doesn't even really feel like it vibrates that much more. I still feel completely comfortable with my 1,000 RPM idle. There is very little that this mount hasn't increased. Initial acceleration has improved a lot. When I used to shift, it was almost like there was a pause before the engine would start accelerating again. Now, I can shift a lot faster than before, and there isn't that pause.

I took the car out to rail battle (do some twisties), and I found that I have a lot more control through the corners, especially when making small adjustments to the throttle. Without the engine flopping around, braking and throttle application through turns is a lot more stable, and predictable.

I haven't done a 0-60 yet. I had gotten pretty much right at 7.0 before. I think I can do a lot better with the mounts. I haven't really tried launching it hard yet either. I'll update as I get better info.

Overall, for 4 hours of work, and $20, this is definitely a mod that should be done on all Z's, without a doubt.

Here they are stock. There was a lot of rubber to remove in the upper motor mount.

Here they are all hogged out. I took a drill and tried to get rid of as much rubber as possible. Since the caulking gun had a nice tip, it was easy to fill the drilled holes in.

All done! They hadn't cured yet, but I tried to fill them up as much as possible. There were a few pockets of air I could feel in there, but I used about 12 ounces of urethane to fill two mounts, so I'm sure I got most of the holes.

I just did this a few days ago. I used 3m Window Weld ($17 after tax at the local body supplies place) and only did my rear trans mount.

I hear the this makes you feel your car stiffer (in a feel-every-little-bump-on-the-road stiff) is this true?

Yeah but at least it's controlled stiffness. I would think it would be a solid feel

Stiff suspension would cause you to feel every bummp in the road. stiffer motor and trans mounts will prevent the motor/trans from moving backwards and forwards. less mvement, is less energy lost to that useless movement. Which means more of that wasted energy makes it to the ground. You will feel more motor vibration though if thats what you meant. As, the oem mounts helped absorb that vibration.

With the two mounts I did, I didn't really feel any noticeable increase in vibration. Maybe since they aren't on the bottom?

It was easy as pie, and really changed the way the car feels in general. Definitely worth every penny.

I JUST did this for my rear lower strut bushings, made a slightly noticeable difference in handling on the Honda!

In another thread, mechtech suggested filling the motor mounts with epoxy instead of urethane. How does epoxy measure in stiffness compared to, say, 80-durometer urethane? 60?

I'll tell you right now, the 80 (or was it 90?) durometer stuff is pretty freaking stiff. I used to be able to rock the engine with my bare hands. With the hood open, and opening the throttle off the cam on the plate, the engine would rock around a lot. Now, it's stiff as a board. I don't see a whole lot of gain going from the urethane to anything stiffer. It wouldn't hurt, and if you can get it cheap, it wouldn't be bad... But as it is right now, it's pretty good.

WindowWeld made my car vibrate pretty good and I only did the rear trans mount cause it was shot. Then again, I don't have the 2 bolts in holding that brace up cause they both snapped and it's resting on the stamped steel between the subframe. LOL Reverse is fun if I hit the gas... engine rocks forward and the brace slams against the cross piece.

I plan on doing the other two mounts soon. I'm going to do a better job of filling them when I do it. Going to get them nice and solid. More solider than the last two!

McMaster lists the 80A durometer stuff as having 1750 psi tensile strength. Epoxies usually list psi on there. That doesn't necessarily correlate with hardness, but it's the only metric I have.

wouldn't you be able to melt the old rubber off with MEK or acetone for a easier removal.
