Default Svt focus fuel pump install

First off thanks to Zetec00. I had a general idea how to do this, but he confirmed a few questions for this.

First off get yourself a SVT focus fuel pump. (I got mine from a pick n pull junkyard)

    Now the install

    1. Go to your gas door and pop open the gas cap to help relive the gas pressure. (pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the system dry wouldnt be a bad idea either)

    2. Remove your lower back seat. Mine came off by pulling the seats straight up ( i grabbed right near the bracket on both sides as to not flex and damage the seat) I think the early 98's have a release button for the seat.

    3. Remove the 4 phillips head screws holding down the panel between the seat belts (Press down as you back them out. It will keep you from stripping the screws

    4. Disconnect the 2 wiring harness that go through panel.

    5. I pulled one of the wires through the panel and moved it completely out of my way.

    6. (the hardest part) Removing the retaining ring. This part could be hard on those who live in the the north. My ring was really rusted and soft. Use a brass punch or chisel and turn the top ring counter clockwise. ( I had to use a lot of PB blaster. I also rolled over a few of the tabs used to tap to back the ring off. I just kept soaking the ring in PB blaster. I almost gave up , but I was determined)

    7. pull the ring off

    8. you should now be able to move the top cover of the fuel pump.

    9. You should now be able to see the fuel pump housing. There are 2 tabs on either side of it. You have to press these in towards each other. You have to pull up at the same time as pressing the tabs. once you unseat it, you will slowly raise the housing and will also have to maneuver the float and the filter screen out of the tank. There is another retaining housing that is mounted in the tank. You have to get the floaty and screen around this.

    10. remove the pump housing

    11. I put the SVTF pump housing next to the zx2 housing. I sat them both up. (as if they were in the tank)
There are 3 very small screws on the outer part of the housing. Remove those and do this on both housings

    12. Open up the lid of the housing and take out your old pump and swap in the svtf pump. They look very similar, except the harness is different. They both have a positive and negative wire. Ours has a bigger harness.

    13. I cut the pig tails right near the top on the svtf housing( right where it comes through the cap) I then cut the zx2 housing about 2 inches from where it comes through the cap so I have enough wire to soldier.

    14. I soldiered the svtf harness to the zx2 housing and used heatshrink. Zip tie up the slack (red wire to red wire) (black wire to black wire)

    15. Put the housing back into the tank. Be careful and gentle, putting it in . You have to put it back in the same way you took it out. There is a square cut out towards the front of the car( this is for the filter sock) The other big cutout toward the back of the car is for the floaty

    16. seat the cap , replace the ring ( i put a small coating of anti seize on it ) hook up harnesses, screw the panel back down, replace the seat , and go boost your car

Nice job Mark. This should be the fuel pump that people install when boosting their Z's.

If you have the black top fuel pump, these are the specs:

    Part # XS2U-9350-AA

    Specs are as follows:
    Max Power Consumption @ 30Lph/270kPa = 50W
    Max Current Draw = 10.1A
    Nominal (NEW) = 8.49A
    Nominal Performance = 154Lph
    Min New = 125Lph
    General Test Condition = 12.0V/350kPA

This one maxes out at 215lph.

The one you want is the green top fuel pump, part number 3S4Z-9H307-BC
That one flows to 255-265lph. They're around $95 new from Ford.

Nice write up but I need some clarification. Do you need to use the pigtail from the svt focus our did you just use it because it was longer. Also, do you need to get your tune changed for the svt fuel pump?

Is it drivable for extended periods of time or do you recommend getting it changed asap. Seeing as josh's meet is in a few weeks I would see if I could just get it changed at mcnews. I know it would be rich but rich is better than lean.

Nice write up but to clear up something. The Green Top SVT Pump is rated at 215LPH , not 255 .. you may be able to get 255 with a BAP. Also where are they at for $95?!

You've got it backwards. The floaty goes towards the front of the car and the sock goes towards the back.

    I think.

Why would it run rich with a bigger pump? The PCM controls the output. It won't run more than the PCM commands.

Thant's what I figured but wasn't sure. I'll know for sure once I can get my hands on a pigtail.
