your car is not a 98 cool. it is a 98 hot. a cool for 98 would have a black steering wheel and a black cover for the steering column. The door side trim would also be black.

it is good to see that this car is getting attention again. Looking forward to seeing it back together

I assure you it is the cool version. I knew this when I got the car 18 years ago brand new. No spoiler, steel wheels with hub caps, no fog lights, no exhaust tip. That is the cool version. My plans are to add pwr windows, pwr locks, cruise control, premium sound, tilt steering, factory alarm, fog lights, and possibly ABS. I have all the parts to do this except ABS wiring and ABS sensors. I am also adding S/R Borla, a black Iceman, and S/R cluster. Also doing my own take on the two tone interior with leather seats.

this is how to tell whether a car is a cool or not for 98

look at the black wheel and the lack of power mirrors. Color match steering wheel, door edge guards and power mirrors (only available on Hot cars).

anyway, you call it whatever, just get it back together

Most recently, I swapped in a deedogeee cleaned 03 headliner which is not an exact fit for a 97-02 ceiling. First of all you have to remove the egg crate and soft black sound deadening material on the 03 style headliner. The fit is also not perfect in the corners in front of the sun visors. I have some ideas on how to remedy this, but instead I will keep searching for a better headliner. I also installed deedogeee cleaned sun visors. Both have vanity mirrors, but only driver-side has cover flap. I also installed an already clean and clear dome light, which I plan to get an LED bulb for.

The power steering fluid is original in this car. The steering rack has operated flawlessly for many a year. The time has for sure come to swap out this old fluid. In my neighbor's garage the other night and I asked him if he had an old turkey baster. He did not. Instead, he came up with a straw taped to a syringe. I am going to clear the reservoir out as many times as it takes to get all the old stuff out. I'm thinking about buying a few of these reservoirs at the junk yard in case I ever break one of mine.

My dumbass finally got a smart phone. Time to start updating. Time to make contributions if I can. I had to replace my exhaust after 19 years and 235k. The original exhaust went the distance and did it in the rust belt. The muffler was still quiet with only the external sheet metal breaking down. About a year ago I ripped the stainless mesh off of the flex section because it was hanging down. Put that in my stainless load and recycled it. Things got really loud recently and I discovered that the flex section had a clean break. Replaced it with a new 2 piece Walker brand exhaust and a near brand new muffler out the junk yard. Replaced all exhaust hangers but saved my originals because they seem fine. This new shit probably won't even go half the distance has the original stuff. I hope I can get my hands on an s/r Borla in the future.20170830_152048.jpg20170830_152059.jpg20170830_152116.jpg20170830_152137.jpg20170830_152152.jpg20170830_152206.jpg20170830_152419.jpg20170830_160623.jpg20170830_160700.jpg20170830_160736.jpg

Been getting a lot of jobs done lately. Having trouble keeping up with worklog. Got the opportunity to pillage two different denim blue Zs- one in Cincy and one in Toledo. Swapped passenger doors with one that was better because rust free. The door that was replaced came out of the same yard a few years back. I love it when history repeats itself. This is the forth passenger door to go on this car.

So the old door had rust problems. Tried to clean it up years back when I installed it, but it turned out to be too deep. The door was better at the time than the primered one that was on there. Old blue door also had some dents and clear coat problem up top.

New blue door has small dents and some scratches and it had a big graphic that was a job to get off and still working on it. Where the graphic had peeled over time and left addhesive led to damage to clear coat. But hey I got an 18 year old rust free door.

I stripped everything off the old door and am returning for a big $5.25.20171109_161035.jpg20171109_161249(0).jpg20171109_161315.jpg20171109_161406.jpg20171109_161327.jpg20171109_161843.jpg20171109_161924.jpg20171109_161939.jpg20171109_162028.jpg

Last November I found a 9 out of 10 sport style denim blue rear trunk door. It is a spare for now. I had to make room for it so I cored my old denim blue cool style trunk door. Complete tear down including VIN sticker.Attachment 35185Attachment 35186

I bought a set of 98 sport seats Thanksgiving weekend during 40% sale. I have passed on these before but could not miss another chance to have some lady only farted in seats. They are like my old seats but have the pipeing and big pocket on passenger back. I am loving these features and I feel like I am sitting higher up in these, but that goes to show just how beat down the old set was.20171129_232439.jpg20171129_232530.jpg20171129_232933.jpg20171129_233332.jpg

Well for some peeps seat swap job is easy, but not neccessarily if you live in the rust belt. I employed my bag of secret tricks all except for torch. I only broke one rear seat bolt which I will fix like it never happened. Unfortunately I also broke free the welded nut on driver front left seat pan rail. That part is spot welded in so who knows when I can weld in a new one. In the mean time I will cut that piece out at the junk yard. I had to go a few rounds wrestling that seat out bending the hole on seat floor pan rail to allow the nut to come through.

I went a few days without that bolt and it is very unsettling. Fortunately, there is access to the back of the seat pan rail if you pull up the carpet. My articulating stubby ratchet got in there and got me fixed up. I would prefer to fix this right someday because it limits my freedomz.20171203_213435.jpg

Glad to get rid of that vinyl. Been looking at it since 98. Also like the rear headrests and since these are early 98 seats I got the buttons. A lot of win with these seats despite rent a car look.
