    Default Dies quickly, still runs though

    So my car has a problem. Lets start from the beginning..

    Few weeks ago I am driving, perfectly fine. Stop to look at a 300zx and I decide it is a POS. Meh, whatever. I go to leave..

    I get in the car and go to start her up. All is normal, turns over fine, no funny noises. Then it revs like normal at startup andddddd.... dies. Backfires through the exhaust once. I try to start it again.. same thing, no backfire.

    I start it and start pumping the gas and get it revved up and I leave. I live about half a mile away so I am doing what I can to keep it running on the way home. Wants to die in between shifts etc. I get it home, w00t.

    I pop the hood and what do I see? White smoke coming from around the cat. Wasn't oil burning, and it wasn't coolant. I am assuming it must have been burning fuel, so I assumed it was out of time. I unplugged the MAF for the hell of it to see if it changed anything and well.. it did. It ran then, just badddd. It would stay running now, but it was a lot rougher and ran like total shit(obviously).

    I checked the timing tonight to see if it was fubr and it wasn't WAYYY off. I didn't have enough time to actually check it but everything seemed close enough by just looking at it.

    Now I am thinking I might try a different PCM. I am looking for other ideas though. Suggestions? Everything is appreciated.

    Check for a large vaccum leak. Do you have a vaccum tester? You can rent one at Auto Zone.

    I know I had a small vacuum leak, but would it just suddenly get that bad? I'll go through tonight and check.

    were you driveing the car hard before you parked it
    if you were you flooded the exhaust with unburned fuel then when you reved it you lit the gas on fire which caused the pop clean the injectors with injector cleaner change the spark plugs it should be fine you might have gumed it all up runnning it rich

    No. I didn't rev it either, it revved like normal when it started and died immediately after.

    It wasn't running like bad plugs anyways.

    the problem sounds like a fuel problem not a vacum

    No, but it isn't the injectors either. There was no real loss of power when I was stepping on it, it just won't idle or stay running.

    If I had it in gear and let off it lost speed fast too guys. Almost felt like a brake was hanging up, but it wasn't.

    some times when the injectors are clogging it just doesnt idle my suburban just went through that and i had to replace the injectors
    and it idles at 600 and starts hard

    It doesn't start hard. It starts fine and dies after.
