The truck I've been driving is down with a bad fuel pump, so I was driving my moms Ford Five Hundred to my dads today (I hate this car, mostly due to the drive-by-wire shit that I can't stand). A few miles before his house, this new Challenger starts tailgating me (I'm already doing 65 in a 55). We come to this ~3 mile straight stretch of highway with no intersecting roads, just wide open fields on each side with no other cars in sight. He goes to pass me and I jump real quick to ~75. Thinking there is no way he would actually race what is pretty much a Ford Taurus, I slow back down to 65 to let him pass. He gets beside me and stays there, with his girlfriend pointing and laughing.
I don't even know what I was thinking (or if I was), I just floored it. I heard his car downshift and it moved out a little...... then I just walked him to my 105 limiter, by about 4 cars...
WTF? I know this ford isn't anywhere near fast (I've read 16.3 1/4 mile for the 2wd), but are the new Challengers really that slow? I know it had to be a v6, but still..
That being said, this thing pulls alot harder then a 16 sec car. It honestly feels more like high 14/low 15. I've road in my buddies 99 Mustang gt auto, and they feel about the same.
It was probably a v6 auto if it was that slow, or he didn't push down the gas pedal.

I'm kind of surprised by that. The 3.0 Duratec was pretty quick in the older Taurus but the Five Hundred is a much bigger car. Now if it was an 08-09 Taurus with the Duratec 3.5 I could see it being close. My mom's 08 Taurus X is fast.
