Default you guys on asked for some pics for my turbo set-up, here is my "top mount Z"

im going to be re-doing some things here soon, july at the latest, i have a couple weeks off of work and i wanna do a nice job, but i just put a new intake on it with a Delta Force Bazooka 95mm MAF. I also have lots of other goodies to put on like pace setter header, pcv catch cans, new "iceman" air filter, and some new charge tubing(i currently have pvc tube, lol), new tuning software, i wanna redo the exhaust, blah blah blah.

ya, the intake is blow through(obviously) with 3.5" pipe going up the side of the engine then after the 90 it is 2.75" to the TB, the MAF is a 95mm Bazooka........................i can try to get a good picture of the exhaust manifold to turbo pipe, this is a big reason i am redoing alot of things, it cannot support the weight of the turbo with the 2 bolt flange that our exhaust mani's have, so i will be fabbing a new one with the new exhaust header i got, and ill put an extra bolt or two on it for support, or ill just weld it in there. over time the gasket squishes on one side and opens up on the other, big leaky lol, so i have to redo some things, but pretty soon here

That's a pretty neat setup. I may have to look into doing this.. I had planned a setup like my old one, but this one seems more aesthetically pleasing when finished.

i thought about going bottom mount with it at first, but realized i had to take the engine out to get everything fabbed the right way, i did not have the time to do this or the right resources, so i went top mount, its more rare this way, and all the hook ups are way easier to get to, all in all, it has its problems, this is my first time, and i have to redo some stuff, but it held up for a year atleast

thanks, believe it or not, i think it was easier to make things fit this way, but, it still wasnt easy as we all know when it comes to doing any forced induction setup

i like your setup. If I were to do turbo again , I would do it this way so I could keep the stock cooling system , and utilize a windage tray return as opposed to a oil pan return. The only thing I would mention about your setup is that the charge pipe is freaking huge. Looks like a tractor trailer intercooler pipe. Probobly losing a little velocity on the air coming through it , but hey , if it works. Why fix it ?

Flux-core sure does make some ugly welds, doesn't it? Unless you plan to run 600 whp, you need to reduce the size of that charge piping. A MAF that large doesn't have much resolution so your low speed and idle would suffer, there is no reason to have that large of charge piping at the power level you are at. That turbo doesn't look big enough to even fill up those pipes. I would clean up those welds and paint them so they don't rust and crack. Nice job getting it to fit though.

As for the 2-bolt flange, try welding a support bracket on the trans mount area to hold up the pipe. You can also try a bolt from the AC bracket.

Definitely not getting pretty points with that one. But as long as it works and you are happy.

What kind of budget do you have into that thing?

ya flux core is "fuggly", lol, the weld job did not hold up the first time around, and instead of grinding it i just re-welded over top of the old welds, which didnt hold up either, so im getting all new for the dump pipe, i have most of the stuff here already, im gonna get started with fabricating this weekend as long as im not working too much overtime. as far as the two bolt flange on our manifolds, i was worried about this in the first place, so this time around i am gonna just weld the pipe onto the pacesetter header i have sitting in my garage, no bolts, no supports, tight seal. I have gotten really good with the welder since this project, but paint is a must, as you can see the welds are corroded and it hasnt been a whole year.....as for the intake, it is brand new, yes it is beefy, but i think i will bee able to straighten out the idle, atleast i hope, im new to tuning, but i ran close to this size on the old intake with a mustang maf and everything was smooth for just a base tune, i just upgraded to new software and hope i can compensate. as far as the budget goes, this was the cheapest turbo setup possible, i have five mouths to feed, and a house to pay for, i probably spent round $800 for just parts and turbo for the original setup(not including sniper tuning software). i had fun with it last summer, and im itching to get things fixed up this summer. I will post new pics soon. oh, btw, my ATX has been a champ, no slipping or signs of failure yet

We aren't really talking about just the idle and low-speed drivablity with the large charge pipes. You also have longer spooling times and that turbo has to work harder to keep up. You would see a faster spool and more top-end power if you went even with 2.5" pipes but you should be using 2.25" charge pipes on that small of a turbo.

I find the key to welding with flux core is to clean the metal really well. A wire brush doesn't do nearly as good of a job as an angle grinder with 80 grit sanding wheels will do. I've been using .030" wire and I find that I burn into the pipe too much (on the lowest setting) since it takes so long to fill in the pool. After I run this spool out, I'm going back to .035" wire. My welder has a gas hook-up so I'll be using that when I can afford to get a tank.
