How do you like the hankooks? I drove on them in someone else's car they felt pretty damn good to me. He ended up only getting half a season out of them though but for the price it seems about right

they are amazing! they grip like a Hoosier A6 and wear like a Khumo v710...and for about 50-70 bucks less a tire.

update on the tires...they corded on the outside shoulder last saturday. they lasted 8 events worth (6 events with codrivers at two of them). so 48 runs. but they still had plenty of meat on the center....it was kind of weird how they corded only at the very corner of the shoulder...but i think it's because i ran with too low a pressure for the first 6 events. i was starting at 28psi cold and letting them ride at 32psi hot. the event before this last one i bumped it up to 38psi cold and let them ride at 40psi. there was much much more grip with more pressure...so unlike the Hoosier and Kumho, they like high pressures. i'm hoping to get 60-70 runs out of my next set instead of 48 runs.

i messaged Hankook on facebook about what pressure i should be running. i guess it's time to put the camber back to 4.2 degrees and run more pressure. the inside shoulder has tons of meat left...in fact it's almost still square. maybe i'll flip the tires every 3 events or so.

4.2 that's a lot of camber that doesn't affect your acceleration a bit? The hoosier r6's I bought are still good after quite a few events. I don't think I will cord them before the end of the year.

at 4.2, acceleration wasn't too bad. i could dump the clutch at about 6000 and they'd hook and go. thanks to the MFactory diff, probably. but with that much camber, you can see the issues i'd have when trail braking on the inisde wheel in that pic with all the smoke.

Do the R6s get warm enough to work well?

Tim, 4+ degrees of camber seems high to me as well. Braking and accelerating are compromised at that level. A solution that we have found is to increase caster. We run the camber plates as caster plates. Caster goes from in the 2's to almost 5 this way. We then slot the strut mount holes and get a little camber that way--mid/upper 2's. The caster is 'dynamic camber' and really helped with forward bite off-corner (without the LSD). Even if you don't choose to do that, the camber in the low 3's is as much as you *should* need if all else is working.

unfortunately, the FAA shut down Decatur and Coles County events...and Caterpillar hasn't allowed a Peoria event in a couple years. but Rantoul is just north of Champaign and has two more events this year. October 20/21 and a November event. i might come up and do an event on street tires since i corded my R comps and i dont want to run new stickers in this cold.

it's not SCCA (the old HIR/HISCC does do a couple SCCA events a year, though) but through a different insuring body, instead. it could be why costs are so low. 20 bucks for members of the SCCA or CCSCC (15 dollar annual membership), 25 for students, 30 for everyone else....and if you race the same car on sunday it's 10 bucks.
