Default Turbocharged weekend car-- power steering or manual?

Just wondering what you guys think.. replace my whining power steering pump OR manual rack swap and clean up the engine bay?
This is a weekend car and won't be driven every day. I have no experience with driving a no PS Escort, so I'm not sure of the outcome. I would swap a true manual rack in if I were to do it.

I have a manual rack in my s/r, long as you dont try to turn the wheel at a dead stop there are no issues. I personally will never go back to a power rack, atleast on a zx2. I

I wouldn't remove it but if you do you wont ever have to worry about replacing power steering hoses or the pump again

first took off a/c to have more room in the engine bay. then took off power steering in order to have even more room and upgrade in the future. then did a wire tuck. it comes in stages but no power steering wont kill ya. i dont have a manual rack but its still fine.

You can get by without power steering on the ZX2 because of the light weight . Get a good manual rack an make it a Armstrong .

I have a manual rack for sale with ES bushings...just saying.

Anyway, I LOVED my zx2 without power steering, but I drove the KLZE with a de-powered stock rack and it sucked balls. I think if you aren't driving it every day, go manual.

what es bushings fit it? because the zx2 ones do not, they're different grommets.

What is everyone using, Mazda Protege' manual racks?

I've read that if you pull the P/S pump and the A/C compressor, you can just remeasure for a shorter belt w/o having to get the A/C delete-kit pulley? Is this true, cause that's where I wanna be!

Yes it is true, but you have to move pulleys around or else you might have to put on a belt on the side of the road after it popped off of the tensioner.

ive been running a depowered rack for a long time and 205/40/17s on enkei pf01's and its not bad if its moving slowly but at a dead stop its tolerable, if i put in a true manual rack it would make it alot easier, i just dont want the extended lock to lock. id say do it, you wont regret it.

Thanks. Since my S/R is 2000, then use Mazda Protoge 2000 rack and direct bolt on?
What do you mean, "move pulleys around" please? This is all new to me, changing pulleys and all.
    Thanks again!

You need a manual rack from an Escort Pony 91-93, and you remove the power steering. I recommend the AC as well, but that's on you. The pulleys you swap I believe are the ribbed idler under the alternator and the smooth one on the tensioner.
