i had an svt focus but imo the zx2 n/a or otherwise would be a better car its lighter, not a hatchback, so it would have been even more popular and if ford would have come out with the turbo one it would have had the most horsepower under $21K (the selling point of an dodge srt4 neon) way before the dodge srt line even came out. but like pinkshinyalan said it long past the expiration for this car to come out

Ford does have a warehouse of stored prototypes on strong shelves stacked on top of each other, kind-of like going to the lumber section at Menards or Home Depot. I saw it on the discovery channel a few years ago. They are never for sale and the only people that can get them go to Museums.

I know there is a post saying this was a turbo, but I remember at one point a SVT/Ford engineer was commenting here or on a Focus site and said it was close to 200HP N/A and was on the heels of the then new 99 Mustang GT in the 1/4 mile. The styling ideas came from the SVT Contour. The car, like the ROUSH was axed when Ford told its internal teams to focus on the Focus.

The fact the ZX2 ECU has a spot in it to control a dual runner intake makes me think that a lot of the SVT focus' engine was originally developed on the SVT ZX2.

SVT ZX2 was the 170hp Zetec in the SVT Focus, Roush ZX2 had the supercharger, ZX2nr had the turbocharger.

Did anyone actually see a turbo or IC on the ZX2nr? Or is it just suspect?

I wouldn't be amazed at all if the SVT ZX2 was pushing 195-200 then detuned to 170 for longevity/warranty reasons. All it would have needed was FR ported head, bit more aggressive tune and a hotter cam really to be about there. Some SVTf's were making ~150whp already with just the tune and drop in filter. Mild head work, and the cam would have been an easy 15-20whp jump for the 190-200 crank mark.
