holy crap...15 microns??? when i worked in R&D at caterpillar, we had to shut all the other machines in the building down to allow our 1.6 million dollar milll to hold that kind of tolerance! 0.010 is considered a resurface by most shops....and 15 microns is only 0.0006.
2000 S/R FSP build: APC shift knob, LED tails, zx2 sticker on the rear bumper, Silverstar headlights, blue spark plug wires, optima red top battery, Magnaflow muffler, and some lowering springs.

what does the manual say about decking the block? and would i need new pistons with a 0.0475 overbore, or just different rings? i need to throw together a list of things to get done next winter.

I did not see the manual--and Craig did not remember seeing a spec. I think he has a .pdf of it.

The overbore is max at .0472 (I corrected post above). Yes--you need new pistons. We got new pistons for the 30-over build at Summit--about $90 for hypereutectic pistons (same as stock) made by Sealed Power.

i wonder what the thinnest head gasket we can use is...like if any of the other escorts on our line used one with one fewer layer like the focus. i think i remember hearing one of the years (98 or 03) used a slightly thinner one.

I saw on zxtuner that they sell a .020 gasket vs a .035 stock one.

Just got off the phone with Craig--he has a book manual...and it's at our crew guy's house. Craig did not recall a decking spec...but I assume there is one. He was leery about that insomuch as we may run into interference issues...there are already eyebrows in the stock pistons...and if we do the tiny shave and the thin gasket...things are gonna get snug.

Can we get a bigger MAF to support 24# injectors? Or do you think we are not pushing the limit of the 19s?

you'd have to shave about 80 thousandths to be interference....so with less than a 0.010 head shave, probably similar for the block...you can probably take off 0.060 or so in gasket material and be safe. i know a dirt tracker down here that broke a belt with an 0.070 head shave and it never touched.

as for the MAF...i'm not sure what the limit is on the 19# injectors, but there are definitely bigger MAFs out there you can use...like the Thunderbird/Mustang/Ranger ones.

I am pretty sure gaskets are considered a maintenance item, like plugs and wires...and therefore free. I'll double check...but as I understand it, if it fits, it is legal.

well in that case...there are some pretty thin Focus gaskets that work.

Beginning to question this; I see a lot of threads where on various cars people are using "this or that" gasket...but the rules are void of mentioning anything. That would lead to to OE or equivalent. The Stock rules allow .020 overbore and no balancing/blueprinting...they used to allow .0472 and B&B...and what I am remembering may go back a decade or two. Still seeking clarification.
