Default ZX2 FSP In-Car at SCCA PDX Road America 10/19/12

Here is an in-car from yesterday. I am driving and co-owner/driver is riding shotgun. Got stuck behind some traffic on the back half of the track, and got passed by some "faster" straight-line cars in the passing zones. Never got a full "fast" lap in...but being on track is always fun regardless.

i really want to do wheel to wheel stuff....but i'd absolutely hate to do events where there is one spot on a huge track to pass...or where you have to wait for some guy in a nicer car to point you by, and he never does. that would piss me off so bad...and racing is supposed to be fun.
2000 S/R FSP build: APC shift knob, LED tails, zx2 sticker on the rear bumper, Silverstar headlights, blue spark plug wires, optima red top battery, Magnaflow muffler, and some lowering springs.

I'm not complaining too much--I was an instructor, and therefore did not have to pay to be on track. We got to drive after lunch...Craig ran with the "fastest" group, and I was out with the second fastest (of 4). The Blue and the white STi's were instructors...the Blue one was Bart Hockerman, who was one of the fastest RT guys at solo Nats. Clearly was faster in the straights, but he did have a mirror full of ZX2 on the back 1/2 of the track.

Wheel to wheel racing and track days are two different things.
Look at a track day as being on a country road ith everyone going in he same dirrectionand you can go a fast as you want or as traffic allows.

It can be frustrating at times but then you do get some gratification when you pass a Porsce 911 on the straight or a Corvette gets the passing flag to let you by.
Or you keep planning on how to get by that car when you get to the passing zone.

i think when i can afford to, i'll either do a zx2 up for IT or just get a spec miata. i hate when people make fun of autox, then assume that all track events are somehow "better." going slow and waiting for sunday drivers isn't my idea of fun...neither is straight, straight, straight, get ready, curve...okay...straight, straight, straight.... i would love to do wheel to wheel, though!

I did Spec7 in 1999 and 2000; I assure you that W-2-W is everything you imagine. I have a friend that describes it thusly: "Autocrossing is like looking at a beautiful centerfold. Racing is like having her in your lap".

One thing on a track day over autocross and racing is that you get abundant seat time.

true. but it's the constant excitement, rapid throttle/steering/braking inputs, and competition that's fun to me. otherwise, i might as well drive in Chicago traffic if i want to hammer on the gas then brake, then get held up behind someone slow. i might have a faster average speed doing that, too
