I know you don't like hatches, but you clearly haven't driven it because it has quite a bit of power. Sure it's not a V12 Aston Martin, but it's an affordable option for people that want a quick car that handles great without having to drop in a bunch of aftermarket.

my 1999 ATX zx2 with 130bhp says "sport" on the back, I must have a modern sports car

JE Pistons, Eagle Rods, heat treated crank, john p ported head, on my fifth transmission (MFactory LSD), 12.5" Wilwood Brakes, Roush/Turbonetics turbo, 17x7.5 Volk TE-37's, 60lb seimens injectors, deatschwerks 300m fuel pump, 38mm Tial Wastegate, 6 puck clutch, megasquirt 3, Ground Control coilovers, wings west lip kit, and not enough time to work on it.

    Fixed that for you...

If they are calling a Fiesta a sports car, they have lost all concept of what a true sports car is.

I have driven one. A tangerine scream colored one. It felt like I was disconnected from the road. It sits high, it struggles to pull it's heavy carcass along when exiting corners, and the steering is numb.

Focus or Fiesta? Fiesta doesn't come in tangerine is why I ask. I've heard some people like the Fiesta more because you feel more connected than the Focus since it's smaller and lighter. Having never driven the Focus I don't know. I can understand the numb feeling I suppose considering they use electric steering. I guess it didn't bother me because I had no problems tossing the Fiesta around on the course and it accelerates, handles, and brakes much better than my ZX2.

I agree it's not a sports car though. It's a sporty Fiesta, but it's not comparable to a sports car. The power to weight ratio makes it feel quicker, but it's still a 1.6L turbo car. Put that engine, even with the ST tune, in a heavier bigger car and it's gonna be slow.

focus/fiesta ST as a sports car = high insurance costs, without as much fun as a real sports car.

All in all, I like the car. I think the interior is too cramped, but they seem like fun cars. and it sure beats a regular focus without the turbo. Glad they've started putting turbos on them!

I haven't done an insurance quote or anything, but I hear the insurance cost is the same as a regular Fiesta. To insurance companies it's not actually classified as a "sports car" either. So you an have more fun then in a regular Fiesta/Focus while paying the same on insurance.

i autoXed the Focus ST (the tangerine one) for two fun runs. i did drive a Fiesta ST, but it wasn't at the track...it was in town and i didn't really push it because i'm not a dickhead when i drive on the streets. it still felt very tall and numb, though. could have been the super narrow street tires that came on it. i don't like when cars are tall. that is the opposite of sporty, to me. let my ass scrape the ground...that's one of the defining factors in a sports car in my opinion.
