    Default G6M Transmission Swap

Here is the new thread, I will continue to update this first post with photos, information, thoughts and how to.

Left: G6M Right: G5M, upper bracket

So an adapter will need to be made so that the bracket from the g5m can be used. I also noticed that on the g6m the upper bracket mounts further back on the housing, so slots will be made into the adapter bracket to help adjust.

so looking at the position of both of the shift mechanisms it will be required to go to the cable shift. I've been looking into both factory and aftermarket solutions. I know that Ford charges $280 for a new Fusion shifter assembly. I'm checking with TWM Performance to see what they have.

I'm in the process of disassemble of the g5m but there are some really nasty bolts that are soaking in PB Blaster right now, more updates to come.

9-2-14: Both transmission are now apart. AND THE BELL IS A DIRECT SWAP!!!!!!!!

    100_1989.JPG100_1988.JPG

The next step is to get all the parts cleaned up and transfer the ring gear from the G6M to the diff from the G5M.

Also here are some comparisons that I thought very interesting.

5th/6th shift fork. The G6M is on the left and G5M on the right:

the biggest difference is the design of the g6m seems to be stronger, fusion owners are running more power through it than we can with ours in heavier cars. also the lower gears are closer ratio with a better overdrive gear in the 6th position.

So I need a little help from the community here, I have been working on dis-assembly of the G6M and have hit a snag and would love some suggestions.
    ResizedImage_14090544388361.jpg
This is the gear set under the hat and those top bearings are pressed on (from what I can tell) and I'm not sure how to remove them with out causing a problem. Suggestions???

Also if any of you work for Ford or a dealer could you see if there is a tear down procedure I could look at please?
