Default Quick question about replacement parts.

Looking to replace my fuel injectors and ignition coils this paycheck. Can anyone recommend specific ones? Was looking on rock auto for both but figured i'd play it safe and ask the gurus.

I have an hour commute to work so i'm really only focused on mileage right now. Not trying to pull anything crazy yet. I am planning on a turbo build this winter which i'm really going to be doing my research on the build logs on here. Also, forgot to mention it's a 99 zx2

No gains from injectors or brand name coil. MSD is no better than stock. If you install anything other than factory duty injectors without tuning, your car will not be stoich. If you have a 98, the later years' injectors have a different pintle cap and will help increase atomization of the fuel. Other than that, stick with stock.

For fuel mileage, be sure your MAF is clean. Another suggestion would be to replace the front O2 sensor. If it's reading funky, the PCM will adjust A/F to compensate or throw you into open loop.

Thank you so much dougie. I ordered direct replacements for both. Due to my budget, this is all I can replace this weekend. Fixing this flex pipe today. Makes the car sound obnoxious as hell. If I weren't buying the flex pipe and clamps I would be grabbing the front O2 as well. I found gettle on here and hooooooly moley. That guy is a powerhouse. Honestly have never even seen mech's thread about 40mpg+ until after you told me to find gettle. Led me right to mech's thread. Also, I see a lot of carbon build up in my throttle body. Probably a waste of time but figured I'd ask, is it worth cleaning out that and the intake manifold? Also do I need to grab MAF cleaner or is there a poboy style?

Thank you, John! That's perfect. Also, should i reset the computer after cleaning the MAF?

If you install the coil and wires I linked you should unhook the cables off the battery. Install should take you around 15 minutes. Just enough time for the computer to clear any codes and reboot.

John, thank you for the hook up. About to go grab a new fuel filter also because i put in my old fram one i took out before the one i have in now and it got even better after another test run after the Post MAF cleaning run. Those wires are going to look so shexy. Thanks again, brother. Also which paint brand do you recommend for painting the valve cover?

No worries! The MSD coil and matching cables are going to look really clean. I'm waiting for one of my deals to get out of escrow so I can get paid before I buy the set.

Valve cover paint? IIRC, the stock ZX2 valve cover is steel. I would powdercoat it. I pulled a magnesium valve cover off a Contour that fits the Zetec head. If I wanted to color it I would have it anodized. In my case I just polished it. I have an extra one for sale if you're interested.

BTW there is another ignition kit that is a little cheaper from the same company, Massive. The only difference I can see is the cables aren't covered with a weave like in the first link.

If you want to rattle can the steel cover then pretty much any name brand paint will work. Just make sure you prep it correctly before you spray it. Sand any loose paint or debris that might compromise paint adhesion. Wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol or grease and wax remover. Let the alcohol/GWR evaporate off the surface and wipe down with a clean, lint free cloth. Paint it. If you want it to look really pro I would color sand between coats and lay a couple of clear coats on it. To paint the magnesium cover will take a special process due to the metals properties.

You have me set on the first ignition kit. I just can't look at any other set now. I will definitely be keeping in touch with you. The contour cover would look absolutely crisp in the bay. So i'm just gonna shoot for that. i was set on painting it but you just had to post shiny stuff. Turns out i couldn't even afford to fix the flex pipe this weekend. It seems I have my low end back from the fuel filter replacement and MAF cleaning. I looked in my throttle body and decided i will spend the money to clean that up today with the little time i have left before the work week hits. I'm guessing while i'm at it should i just go ahead and clean the intake manifold also? Just seems like basic maintenance that should've been done already but probably hasn't for 130k+ miles. I'm really worried about my 4th and 5th gear power issues (mostly 4th because of these Appalachians). I have a feeling it's due to the exhaust but i was reading on a thread here that the back pressure doesn't mean too awful much on our cars. So i'm thinking it's the O2 sensor. If it means anything or helps at all there is no cat because well this county doesn't care. Going to see what codes i have popping up tomorrow to really find out.

LOL! My bad! I have to remember to be careful about posting car porn! I have an extra valve cover that is painted stock from the factory for sale. All you have to do is strip the paint off and polish it. It's magnesium so once you polish it you'll need to clear coat it if you want the shine to last since magnesium oxidizes pretty quickly.

I'm not really sure how much cleaning the TB and IM are going to do in regards to adding any more performance. If the IM is apart then you might as well but I wouldn't put any special emphasis on it unless it's really bad.

Are you saying you don't have enough power in 4th and 5th gear to get up hills?
