    Question F/I and MPG

    Hey,
I bought a zx2 recently and I was considering boosting it later on after I get the car's basic tune up and all that good stuff that comes with buying a used car done.

Now my question is if I ran a small turbo 6-8 psi max on stock internals (I read that as long as you don't go over 210 whp, then stock rods/pistons are fine) would it hurt my mpg at all when it was kept out of boost? I would love to have decent mpg (around 30) while having a little bit of power behind the car, but I do realize that I may not be able to have the best of both worlds.

Honestly it depends how you drive, if your constantly on boost your gonna get shit mpg. I've gotten as bad as 17 before. However if you drive pretty conservatively you won't notice much difference. I still average around 29-34 highway if I'm on a longer cruise and not doing pulls every on/off ramp

That isn't bad at all and is quite comforting. Since I was considering of using it as my daily driver to replace my current one. Currently, my daily driver is an escort lx and I average around 35 mpg with around 60-40% city highway, but I drive around a bunch of idiots and my little 2.0 spi can't even pass an 18 wheeler without a struggle lmao.

Good luck staying out of boost once you get it lol I can't... and get around 20 mpg on average now. If you don't boost (long cruise, etc.), you basically have a 2.0l n/a car again.

That is my current dilemma lol. If I just wanted 20 mpg I would just drive my Maxima lmao. It is comforting to know that the gas mileage can be high, but maybe I should reevaluate if I want to drive conservatively.

You'd walk Maximas (N/A, obv) all day long with f/i, though. You also need to be mechanically ready for f/i as well. Things will go wrong, no doubt about it. This thing was never supposed to see anywhere near 200 whp lol

Lol I couldn't stress the things will go wrong part enough. Keep in mind something can and always will break or go wrong at some point

Just to put in my $0.02. I'm not running my ZX2 with Boost, however, that being said; Simple bolt-ons and a good tune can make a world of difference in the way the car performs. I managed to increase WHP, Torque and MPG by 20% over factory without boost or internal engine work, and recently I upgraded the MAF to one for a 3.8l V6 and #30 Injectors and adjusted the tuning for them, the car seams to have better performance (acceleration) now than ever before, but I still need to upgrade the throttle body to match the MAF to get the car performing correctly with the new injectors and MAF. (it's giving me a check engine code for MAF and TPS ut of sync). The new injectors and MAF had no adverse effect on MPG, but had a noticeable improvement in power from the car. Without touching the throttle, the car will accelerate to 25 MPH simply by putting it into drive and taking my foot off the brake, it never did that before changing the MAF and injectors.
My car is a collectable according to PennDOT

My car has had two owners: Ford Motor Company and Me.

Yea, if I didn't walk an N/A Maxima, then there would be an issue at that point. If Maximas were about 600+ Ibs lighter lol.

Mmmm true... just prepare for everything so have money back for when things go wrong lol.
