    Default Misfire cylinder 1

So alittle background. I bought the car with a broken timing belt. Previous owner took to machenic to have it fixed and called him out on his bs. She didnt want to pay for all the work so i bought it from her for 600. Got the timing belt done and it was running fine for 3 months or so.

Then got a misfire on cylinder 1. I the. Crashed my other zx2. It was running fine but the front end was toast. Radiotor was not punctured. Pulled the fuel pump from the wrecked zx2 to place in the new zx2. Then replaced fuel injectors, spark plugs, ignition coil and spark plug wires. All from the good running zx2.

A week later misfire came back. I then swapped heads put on new head gasket and valve cover gasket then redid timing. It ran fine for a week. Then the misfire came back. Now it only happens when it gets warmed up. When cold its fine.

What could be causing the misfire? The code it was throwing was for misfire cylinder 1.

It shouldnt be the valves as they came from a perfectly running zx2.

Im thinking maybe its the computer going bad. Is this a viable cause?

what is the actual code coming up?

if the problem stayed with you after the head swap then it may be something other than that. maybe it is your timing procedure? maybe it is a bad piston? maybe it is just a bad coil? need actual code and even year of car/year of head car was removed from

I believe it was p0301. I will stick my scanner on and see if it pulls it up again. The CEL is not on anymore. I will be driving it alittle more until the code comes up again but it didnt come up today when i could feel it.

    It was from a 98 zx2 manual to a 98 zx2 auto.

I followed the guide that is on here to the T so Im sure thats not the problem.

As for the piston I was also thinking that. I still have the block from the better runing engine and worst case will just swap it over.

As for the coil im assuming ignition coil. If so shouldnt the other engine have had a misfire aswell? Thats why i pulled the coil from that car and put it on the new zx2 because it was not having any problems.

EDIT: Can confirm it is P0301

It happens generally more under acceleration and when going up a hill. It also happens at idle only with ac on.

It might be a coincidence but i had plugged the knock sensor back in and it started to misfire really badly and back fire through the exhaust. Also everything in the engine bay is really heat soaked after driving for 15 minutes. Cant even touch the intake or the battery.

I also have an ultra gauge plugged in. When it started to misfire more and more it was not able to read the ecu anymore.
