Default Need to replace struts. Recommendations?

I've had the car since 130k, and I am at 175k now. My front right strut is broken, and the left looks like it will be going soon too.
I was looking at getting these https://www.amazon.com/KYB-FRONT-REA.../dp/B002T019J0, and adding some sort of lowering springs. The only ones I can find that say that fit my car are H&R Springs, and brands I never heard of. I can't find anyplace that is selling the Eibach springs everyone is mentioning on this site.

Let me know what ya'll are running, or if it high miles, and I should stick with stock struts. Let me hear your opinions.

facebook is for opinions. Here you will get the information you need about the car.

you will be hard pressed to find new eibach springs for the zx2 since they have been out of production for year. You can find them for sale here often. They will be used but springs don't usually wear out unless they have somehow rusted and broke due to such (or collisions, but that is different).

that link you posted is for all 4 struts and is a good price for kyb. The best part of the amazon page is this:

CONVENIENT 4 piece KIT for 1998 - 03 FORD Escort, ZX2 (Exc. Street Racer)

for the same price you can get ready to install, loaded struts. This is a good option since they will also include new mounts. Your plan of kyb struts, eibach springs and then the new hardware will run you at least $500. If you are okay with this price point then get the H&R springs as they will be a good spring to use on the car and provide good results.

i am taking an s/r apart right now because it is smashed so i could probably take the springs off of it and sell those. Shipping is costly though

    Best sale thread ever !!

I got my KYB EXCEL G's from Rock Auto, they were about $50 each ($45 front, $55 rear) plus shipping, add another $65 for 4 new mounts, plus you get an additional 5% off with the discount code in the forum. Also went with H&R springs for $198 shipped from Tire Rack. Works real well. Don't get camber bolts, you won't need them, only dropped 1.5 inches off the height and didn't materially effect the camber

    Thanks for the info.

Just to be clear the 'exc. street racer' means it's only for the normal zx2 coupes?

The S/R had Tokico shocks that were 15MM shorter than the regular shocks to account for the lowered ride height of the Eibach springs. KYB Excel G shocks are said to be good down to 2" lowering with no problems, but they are the stock length, thus the claim "except Street Racer". Some have had problems with other shocks and lowering springs, as the lower height puts the shock deeper into the valving at rest, stiffening the ride considerably and putting higher stress on the shock, but quite a few on this site run KYB Excel G's and shorter springs with no issues.

I thought that all ZX2's had shorter shocks as a cousin gave me a set of struts he got from a friend that I put on an Escort sedan, and they were shorter than the ones I pulled off. But they fit and worked a whole lot better than the old ones I pulled off, and the car looked better too, sat lower. Was not until I got a ZX2 and started digging deeper into the details on the car that I realized what I had on the sedan, but by then it belonged to the insurance company of the texting clown that hit me and totalled it.
