the rules have changed, but not in favor of the original intention of the class (to attract the tuner crowd). it's become an "I" class filled with 99% 89 Honda Civic Si's at nationals. no carbon fiber anything, and very few body kits are allowed. you can do lip kits, but not sideskirts. go figure.
2000 S/R FSP build: APC shift knob, LED tails, zx2 sticker on the rear bumper, Silverstar headlights, blue spark plug wires, optima red top battery, Magnaflow muffler, and some lowering springs.

Thanks for the info. I haven't done anything to the body yet, so I'm glad I asked. I'm guessing that carbon fiber is not allowed, so that means no fiberglass hoods. These rules have changed so much since '05-'06. I haven't raced since then, when I was in high school. Mainly, because I was in the Marines and did a tour in Japan. Now I'm out and these rules are so confusing. I'm racing in Texas and that doesn't help much. Oh, and by the way I got a MOMO steering wheel installed is that allowed, or do I have to change it out.

aftermarket wheel would put you in F Street Prepared. honestly, though...i'm having better results in PAX in FSP than i ever did in ST. it means buying R comps, though.

the S/R is in G Stock, the regular zx2 is in H Stock. they are in the same class from there on, though....being in Street Touring, F Street Prepared, etc.

also, the 2003's for some reason aren't classed anywhere, and i'm not sure where the 99 S/R is classed based on it's limited production numbers.

Just a dumb question what is PAX and what are R comps. Sorry, for all the questions I just love racing and don't wanna get DQed.

PAX is a multiplier in each class to give an overall performance handicap. it means nothing when it comes to winning your class, but it takes slower classes, and evens out the playing field by giving their time a lower multiplier. this way a stock Zx2 with a good driver could beat a modified corvette.

R comps are DOT rated R compound tires. anything under 140 treadwear and is approved by the DOT (not true race slicks, but they most of the time only have one or two grooves in the tire). they are expensive, 150-250 a tire, and don't last very long. some clubs have open street tire classes, where you could run in an R comp class (everything but ST) on street tires and it uses PAX index to place you in the class against people from other classes on street tires as well.

i've had friends race their '03's. i think it's just an oversight in the rules. mechanically, there is nothing different about the cars. they have different fog lights, header panel, bumper, inner turns, and radio bezel. that's not anything performance related. if you are racing locally, absolutely you can race it. if you were going to a national/pro event...it would probably just take a clarification letter from the SEB (rule makers of the SCCA for solo) to get a waiver or the rules changed to allow them.

i should probably update this thread sometime, too. ST has been since broken up into STF and STC. the zx2 falls into the STC (with the SpecCivic still, unfortunately) and i think there have been a few updates in allowances, too. as always, refer to the latest SCCA rules on their website and local/regional supplementals.
