well im saying i do nothing with the ECU. I dont touch it at all. Just wire up the servo and connect it to the chip I program which responds to buttons and a sensor I place on the brake probably the standard plunger

well I'm saying that if you can do stand alone programming, then I can sell you the parts that are pictured with the wire ends so you can have the parts to do it.

There is some misinformation in this thread that needs to be addressed, namely this statement.

the cruise is normally controlled by the ECU. The dealer installed unit has it own controller within the wiring harness that comes with it.

This is wrong. Both the factory and dealer cruse control are 100% self contained with a computer in the servo. Its possible to hookup factory cruse control in a car without the black plug in a few hours. I used this diagram from GregF422 and it worked great. Just wire it accordingly.
The steering wheel also plugs in but the wires end at the bottom of the column and the colors are wrong.
You wire light green orange stripe wire to a key on power source and to the yellow wire on the cruse servo.
The light blue wire goes to the red yellow stripe on the cruse servo.
The last wire is black white stripe on one side of the connector and blue on the other. Tap this wire (don't cut it!) and run it to the red blue strip wire on the cruse servo.

Are you guys saying that some cars came factory wired with the plug without the cruise? That's strange why would they have done that? Why can't you cut the sleeving from the harness and splice in a factory plug from a junk car and be done with it?

If you look under the dash at your clutch plunger, you will either have 2 or 4 wires coming from it. Chances are, if it has 4 wires, there will be another clip taped above your brake light switch for the cruise control brake plunger. If you only see 2 wires from the clutch plunger, you can use this diagram.


After you locate a keyed "on" source with a voltmeter, mark it and remove the negative terminal on your battery. Then locate the brake light switch. Has one green/white stripe wire, and one all green wire, and is what sends power to your brake lights. The green/white wire is always hot, and you tap into, not cut it, and send the signal to the new brake plunger. I used spade type connectors on the brake plunger:
The all green wire gets tapped and sent to the clutch plunger and attached to one of the holes perpendicular and between the existing 2 clutch plunger wires. Then slide another wire into the last hole on the clutch plunger, and send that to the green wire on the harness.

Follow the instructions on the original post to install your cruise steering wheel, and wire below the dash accordingly.

This info has been really helpful! One problem I don't have the factory installed black wire harness. Has anyone out there taken a wire harness from a junkyard and tapped it into the existing wires? Is this even possible or do you have to run new wire through the firewall? I have a wire harness, I just don't want to tap it in unless its OK...

What is the way to do this cruise set up without having the wheel? i drive a MTX motor would be almost fist mod of wiring i have done so if i could have it made easier by doing with out the the wheel and just a toggle switch that i could cut on and off of would cut off if i braked then back on when i got off the brake? if the toggle switch was left on and would maitain me be at the correct speed or would i have to have the for the wheel?

before you even begin to play around with the wiring, you should determine if the factory wiring is present. If it is, it is far easier just to install the proper parts for cruise. The correct parts will only take about 30 minutes to install while trying to do your own wiring will take considerably longer

well i do have the spot in my fuse box if im not mistaken for the cruise control but no fuse so im wondering if i do i will look at this tommorrow i guess fellow the line from fuse box if it is their to tell if the factory wiring is already in my zx2?

maybe if you take the time to read through this thread you will see that there is more than looking in a fuse box to determine whether or not the car is originally equipped with the cruise control wiring

I have taken the time and looked at this forum and like i said i would look this morning and no i do not have the wiring for cruise but can easily go pull it and i guess the steering wheel to i have a puller for it but hoping im not needing it. Dareall if you could help me with one issue i started a thread on already totally different
